Director Sherief Elkatsha was born in the US, raised in Cairo and lives in Brooklyn.

Elkatsha recently wrapped production for his next documentary, Far From The Nile, an intimate cultural journey with The Nile Project, 12 musicians, from different countries along the Nile River basin, on their 2017 US Tour.

In 2018 Sherief was commissioned by Center Stage and the New England Foundation for the Arts, to make a short documentary touring the USA with the traditional Egyptian musical band, Mohamed Abozekry & Karkadé.

At the end of 2013 Elkatsha premiered his third feature documentary, Cairo Drive, which was awarded The Best Film from the Arab World - documentary competition, at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival 2013. The film was an official selection in festivals around the world in 2014 and 2015, was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at DOC NYC 2014, and received special mention at Open City Docs in London 2014.

In 2014 Elkatsha was commissioned by the EYE Film Institut Nederland to make a short film combining stock and his own footage, which resulted in Krokodillen.

In 2010, Elkatsha directed the band Supercute!™’s music video “Not Write About Boys.”

Elkatsha was the cinematographer for Cairo Garbage (2009), directed by Mikala Krogh, part of Cities on Speed. 

He co-directed Egypt: We are Watching You (2007), about pre-revolutionary politics in Egypt, through the eyes of the activist group, Shayfeen.com, as part of the Why Democracy series.

His first documentary, Butts Out, about five smokers and their struggles to quit, received the Best Documentary Award at the 2006 New England Film and Video Festival.
